I've seen Mr Pole do a talk on the loyalty journey, the math (not BigData as the event happened way before that) and what Target had to do to stop freaking customers out.
Tesco/DunnHumby had the same kinds of problem with the Clubcard, customer behaviours are easy to spot.
Spoiler: Beer and Diapers was just SQL...... 🙂
